This portfolio of a group of Indian miniature paintings by Nainsukh of Guler, a remarkable Indian painter of the 18th century, features thirty works--including preliminary sketches, drawings, paintings, and large-size scrolls--from an exhibition shown in the Haus zum Kiel in Zurich, and later at the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery in Washington, DC, are featured here. "What is extraordinary about Nainsukh is the fact that he depicted the day-to-day life and perhaps even the dreams of a prince who was neither a well-known statesman nor a man of great means, but a connoisseur of the arts. Balwant Singh is often rendered watching dancers or listening to music.
