Maggiori informazioni sul libro

In 2015, the Polish Institute of World Art Studies, in collaboration with the National Museums in Kraków and Warsaw, and the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, initiated a comprehensive research project on Henryk Siemiradzki, a notable Polish painter linked to Russian and Italian art circles. Funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education under its “National Programme for the Development of the Humanities,” this five-year endeavor culminated in the publication of a two-volume Catalogue Raisonné of Siemiradzki's paintings, sketches, and oil studies. The project aimed to catalog all surviving works and those documented, confirming their authenticity through various means, including drawings, reproductions, and technical examinations. The Catalogue Raisonné not only includes a bibliography and exhibition history for each painting but also delves into the artist's iconography and contextualizes his work within the artistic and intellectual movements of his time. It is organized thematically, covering historical scenes, religious representations, genre compositions, portraits, and landscapes, supplemented by a chronological overview. Additional volumes provide insights into archival sources, artistic studies, and technical examinations of Siemiradzki's methods. The project has significantly enhanced the understanding of Siemiradzki's contributions and opened new avenues for exploring 19th-century Polish and European art.
