Maggiori informazioni sul libro

This book is an examination of intercultural relations between Hawaiian people and German speaking peoples embracing the inhabitants of the German speaking parts of the Holy Roman Empire, followed by those of its successor states Austria-Hungary and those entities dominated by Prussia which in 1871 finally established the German Empire. Later this included Switzerland, the Baltic lands, and others. All of these played a role in the exploration of the Pacific including, but not limited to, the Hawaiian Islands. This book looks at the German "Pacific connection" giving special attention to Hawaii. The book examines the underlying philosophical and cultural concepts in the actual development of Hawaii including the work of German speaking explorers, adventurers, writers, artists, musicians, businessmen and statesmen.
