It was Thursday, the 5th November 1992. I had no idea that on this particular day I would meet the legendary photographer Gisèle Freund and that it would have such an impact on my life. Jessica Backhaus’ book is a tribute to Gisèle Freund on what would have been her one hundredth birthday in December 2008, a testament to the friendship between the great photographer and the photography student in Paris during the 1990s.
