Maggiori informazioni sul libro

This volume compiles papers presented by Polish scholars at the ECSAS 2016, the 24th conference of the European Association for South Asian Studies, held from July 27 to 30, 2016, at the University of Warsaw. Co-organized by the Polish Oriental Society and the University of Warsaw, this biennial event is the largest and most prestigious European conference focused on South Asian research, marking its inaugural occurrence in Poland. The conference featured a comprehensive program with 49 panels and a keynote lecture titled "Asia, Europe and America in the Making of Caste" by Professor Sumit Guha from the University of Texas at Austin. Attracting scholars from nearly 40 countries, the event served as a significant platform for academic exchange and provided Polish scholars, particularly emerging researchers, with enhanced visibility compared to previous ECSAS events held abroad. The contributions reflect an improved Polish presence in European South Asian studies, showcasing a diverse range of interests among Polish South Asianists. Notably, many articles are based on indigenous South Asian sources, including classical Sanskrit, modern Hindi and Panjabi, as well as early modern Braj and Rajasthani texts.
