Maggiori informazioni sul libro
It is 1948, and for eleven-year-old Jennifer Robinson it is her last year in primary school. It is also a year in which she makes some very important discoveries: about life, about other people, and about herself. The Robinsons have more problems than most of the families in the fruit-growing community where they live. They have very little money, the children's father still suffers from the terrible effects of his experiences as a P.O.W. in the second World War, and their fruit crops have been hit by bad seasons. But this year is a year of promise. They are assured of a bumper crop, and they can finally afford to have electricity laid on-until unexpected misfortune strikes them yet again. The four Robinson children have few luxuries, but they all find satisfaction in exploring their individual talents and hobbies, and in the rough-and-tumble of their life together. Each of them has a goal to strive for. For quick-tongued, impatient Jennifer, whose talents for writing and for smart remarks set her apart from the other children in the school, is her wish to have a special friend, and to be accepted for herself. The ups and downs of Jennifer's search for friendship, and the events that lead to her name in print for the first time form the basis of a warm, often funny story of family life.
