Ant colony optimization and swarm intelligence
    • ANTS – The International Workshop on Ant Colony Optimization and Swarm Intelligence is now in its fifth edition, having started in 1998 with the inaugural meeting in Brussels, Belgium. This initial gathering attracted over 50 researchers focused on ant colony optimization and swarm intelligence. A selection of the best papers from this workshop was published in a special issue of the Future Generation Computer Systems journal. The second edition, ANTS 2000, also held in Brussels, saw participation increase to more than 70 attendees. Extended abstracts presented at this event were compiled into a booklet, and notable papers were published in a special section of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation. Following these successful editions, ANTS was established as a series of biannual events with official workshop proceedings. The third and fourth editions took place in September 2002 and September 2004, respectively, with proceedings published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. ANTS 2002 featured 36 contributions, including 17 full papers, 11 short papers, and 8 extended abstracts from 52 submissions. ANTS 2004 included 50 contributions, comprising 22 full papers, 19 short papers, and 9 extended abstracts from 79 submissions.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Ant Algorithms, ANTS 2002, held in Brussels, Belgium in September 2002. The 17 revised full papers, 11 short papers, and extended poster abstracts presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 52 submissions. The papers deal with theoretical and foundational aspects and a variety of new variants of ant algorithms as well as with a broad variety of optimization applications in networking and operations research. All in all, this book presents the state of the art in research and development in the emerging field of ant algorithms

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Swarm Intelligence, ANTS 2018, held in Rome, Italy, in October 2018. The 24 full papers and 12 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 69 submissions. They are devoted to the field of swarm intelligence as a whole, without any bias towards specific research directions.
