      9th Network Europe Conference Scotland, 25th - 28th June 2017

      The UK referendum of 23rd June 2016 was a significant caesura in the history of the European integration process. The so called “Brexit” hit the Union during a complex and challenging situation. With regard to recent developments, the EU Commission introduced a white paper on the future of Europe on 1st March 2017, which sets out possible paths for the future of Europe and offers five scenarios for the Union's evolution by the year 2025. The 9th network conference aimed to give an overview of the current reform proposals and opened a discussion amongst scholars for possible future structures of the EU.

    • The rule of law is a legally binding constitutional principle which is recognised as one of the founding principles inherent to all constitutional systems of the Member States of the EU and the Council of Europe. To strengthen the rule of law in the EU, the European Commission put forward a new EU framework in March 2014. The contributions to the 8th Network Europe Conference discuss the concept, the legal basis and current challenges of the rule of law principle in Europe as well as the efficiency of the new EU instruments to enforce it.
