Theofrastos

    Teofrasto fu il successore di Aristotele nella scuola peripatetica, dedicandosi a soggetti che spaziavano dalla biologia e dalla fisica all'etica e alla metafisica. Le sue opere botaniche influenzarono significativamente la scienza medievale, guadagnandogli il titolo di "padre della botanica". Nell'etica, esplorò la felicità come dipendente sia da influenze esterne che dalla virtù, osservando celebremente che "la vita è governata dalla fortuna, non dalla saggezza."
