Since the last edition of this textbook, interventional radiation therapy (brachytherapy) has undergone significant developments. The incorporation of advanced image-guiding procedures and the establishment of new applicators allow for the highly accurate implantation of complex implants. 3D-guided real-time adaptive brachytherapy is becoming the newest clinical standard. We now find ourselves in an exciting “new era” of brachytherapy. The current edition of this textbook has been updated to include all these new developments in brachytherapy, including the results of recent clinical trials and updates to the brachytherapy guidelines by the European Brachytherapy Group within ESTRO (GEC-ESTRO). A number of highly experienced authors and skilled colleagues from all over Europe have contributed to this edition to educate and inspire all members of the radiation oncology team to utilise the full potential of brachytherapy to the benefit of their patients.

In this book a very comprehensive overview is given on the state of the art of interstitial multicatheter APBI by very experienced and prominent representatives of breast brachytherapy. Patient selection criteria, target volume definition from both the pathologist’s and the clinician’s point of view, implant techniques including anaesthesia and patient care, biological and physical aspects, normal-tissue constraints, and also clinical results of APBI studies will be reviewed. Physicians who are interested in interstitial multi-catheter APBI will find this book helpful for the implementation of this treatment technique in their institutions.

Narativní systemický přístup jde do hloubky lidské komunikace. Pracuje s jazykem, s jeho zamlčenými a zhuštěnými významy, vzorci myšlení a usiluje o efektivitu a užitečnost vzájemné komunikace. Mit dem vorliegenden Buch soll eine umfassende Darstellung der Brachytherapie in einem praxisorientierten Konzept gegeben werden. Alle Kapitel im speziellen klinischen Teil sind nach einem übersichtlichen Schema gegliedert und ermöglichen eine umfassende Orientierung sowie einen schnellen Rat für tägliche Fragen der Brachytherapie.
