This interdisciplinary publication explores the intersection of architecture and photography, with references to contemporary art and urban history. It focuses on current metropolitan phenomena and city transformations, presenting findings from a decade-long research project by Platon Issaias on Athens and Greece’s urban environments. This work contributes to the broader discussion of urban development politics in the Mediterranean and the Global South. Collaborating with photographer Yiorgis Yerolymbos, Issaias provides unique perspectives on Athens, its architecture, recent history, and contemporary life. The publication features texts, architectural drawings, and photographs, creating an Atlas of Athens that highlights exemplary projects, atmospheres, and everyday practices, moving beyond the impacts of the 2010s economic crisis and the ongoing pandemic. Platon Issaias, born in 1984 in Athens, is the Head of Projective Cities at the Architectural Association and a founding member of Fatura Collaborative, established in 2009. Yiorgis Yerolymbos, born in 1973 in Paris, studied photography and architecture in Greece and the UK, with his work published internationally, including a notable photographic essay on the development of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre.
