Chesterton. Durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, Graef fuggì a Londra per sfuggire alla minaccia del nazismo. Scrivendo da una soffitta che veniva frequentemente scossa dalle bombe, sviluppò una prospettiva unica plasmata dalle sue esperienze. Si trasferì poi a Oxford, dove proseguirono le sue ricerche accademiche.
