Created in 2004 in Paris by James Thornhill and Fulvia Carnevale, the collective artist Clare Fontaine creates texts that are as as experimental and politically charged as her visual practice. In. these writings, she uses the concept of “human strike” and adopts the radical feminist position that can be found in Tiqqun, a two-issue magazine cofounded by Carnevale. Human strike is a movement that is broader and more radical than any general strike. In The Return of the Real Hal Foster discusses the development of art and theory since 1960, and reorders the relation between prewar and postwar avant-gardes. Opposed to the assumption that contemporary art is somehow belated, he argues that the avant-garde returns to us from the future, repositioned by innovative practice in the present. And he poses this retroactive model of art and theory against the reactionary undoing of progressive culture that is pervasive today. After the models of art-as-text in the 1970s and art-as-simulacrum in the 1980s, Foster suggests that we are now witness to a return to the real—to art and theory grounded in the materiality of actual bodies and social sites. Seit die ersten Comics Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts in den amerikanischen Zeitungen abgedruckt wurden, haben sich die gezeichneten Geschichten als eigenständige Kunstform etabliert. Dafür verantwortlich waren vor allem auch auch die großen Künstler unter den Comiczeichnern. Die Bibliothek der Comic-Klassiker wird noch einmal die beliebtesten und besten Geschichten in einem prachtvollen Einzelband präsentieren. Ob Comicstrips, frankobelgische Klassiker oder Comicromane, in dieser Reihe werden die großen Comic-Klassiker noch einmal dem Leser präsentiert. In diesem Band werden die frühen Abenteuer von Prinz Eisneherz noch einmal abgedruckt. Leider ist uns im Nachwort des vorliegenden Bandes ein Fehler unterlaufen: Es handelt sich nicht, wie fälschlicherweise angegeben, um das Fantagraphics-Material, welches als Druckvorlage diente. Stattdessen wurde das Material des Bocola-Verlags verwendet, welches dieser für seine Gesamtausgabe neu aufbereitet hat. Wir bitten, diesen Fehler zu entschuldigen.
