Die Prophezeiungen des Nostradamus beginnen mit dem Jahre 1555. Sie erstrecken sich über 23 Jahrhunderte und enthalten eine fortlaufende Geschichtsschreibung bis zum Jahre 3797 n. Chr. Michel Nostradamus, eigentlich Michel de Notredame, wurde am 14. Dezember 1503 in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence geboren. Arzt von Beruf wurde er jedoch noch zu Lebzeiten berühmt für seine Prophezeiungen. Typische Merkmale seiner Voraussagen sind das fast vollständige Fehlen von konkreten Zeitangaben und Namen und eine sehr metaphorische Sprache, die die Prophezeiungen bis in unsere Zeit rätselhaft erscheinen lassen.
