Set in contemporary Dublin, the story follows Cathy Scarlet and Tom Feather as they launch a catering business. Tom, the son of a devout builder and his disappointed wife, diverges from the family construction firm. Cathy, whose father is a perpetual gambler and whose mother, Lizzie, works as a cleaner, faces challenges of her own. Lizzie cleans for Cathy's formidable mother-in-law, Hannah Mitchell, who is furious that her son, Neil, married Cathy's daughter. Tensions escalate when Cathy partners with Tom in their catering venture. Tom's obsessive love for his ambitious model girlfriend, Marcella, contrasts sharply with Cathy's increasingly strained marriage to Neil. Amidst comical catering successes and failures, the emotional dynamics begin to shift, igniting a connection between Cathy and Tom. The narrative is enriched by a vibrant supporting cast, including comically dreadful twins, a lonely man searching for his foster daughter, and a glamorous aunt with questionable financial backing for their business. Together, these characters navigate a landscape of love, heartbreak, and humor, showcasing the author's signature charm and storytelling prowess.
