DS Julie Kite's husband's new job takes her away from urban Manchester to a new life in tranquil mid-Wales. North American B-25 Mitchell byl americký bombardovací letoun, používaný během 2. světové války. Je pojmenovám po generálovi amerického letectva William "Billy" Mitchellovi, který se ve dvacátých letech i proti vůli svých některých nadřízených vehementně zastával letecké techniky.

Umění nočního stíhání není jednoduché se naučit. Pilot a navigátor musí pracovat jako tým, musí myslet a jednat jako jeden muž. Úspěch i přežití závisí na umění obou. Squadron Leadera Lewise Brandona a jeho pilota Wing Commandera Jamese Gilliese Bensona spojila dohromady šťastná náhoda. Brandon byl tehdy naprosto nezkušeným navigátorem, jenž byl navíc ještě den předtím, než narukoval, oblečený v uniformě důstojníka gestapa! Oproti tomu byl ,,Ben'' Benson už Flying Officerem a zkušeným pilotem. Spojili se do osádky v říjnu 1941 a pokračovali spolu až do konce války. Stali se jednou z nejúspěšnějších spojeneckých nočních stíhacích osádek druhé světové války. Do konce války tato dvojice dokázala sestřelit devět nepřátelských letounů, tři další pravděpodobně, tři poškodit a navíc ještě poslala k zemi šest létajících pum V1. Oba získali také nezvyklou zkušenost, sloužili totiž postupně pod třemi velitelstvími RAF - stíhacím, pobřežním a bombardovacím. Jak Benson, tak Brandon, byli vyznamenáni DSO, DFC a barem.
