Gargamel má počíháno na šmouly, jenže vždycky se chytí do vlastní pasti Zloduch Gargamel chystá na šmouly další ze svých léček, ale lov se mu vždycky trochu zvrtne. Jednou chce z krokodýlí kůže připravit lektvar na přilákání šmoulů, ale skončí v krokodýlí tlamě, jindy na skřítky pošle obra lidožrouta, kterému pak sám sotva uteče. V příbězích, jejichž hrdinou je právě Gargamel, se setkáme také s jeho bratrem Gurmelínem, bratrancem Sakrabarbamelem a malými legračními synovci.

Ve šmoulí vesničce se chystá velký jarní maškarní bál. Letos bude na téma Princové a princezna. Ano, princezna v jednotném čísle, protože Šmoulinka je jenom jedna! Chce mít ty nejkrásnější šaty, jaké kdy ve vesničce viděli, ale nebyl by to šmoulí příběh, kdyby se něco nepošmoulilo...
