Praha, prosinec 1938 - německá okupace e na obzoru a tisíce uprchlíků a českých občanů si zoufale přejí uniknout do bezpečí. Nicholas Winton, mladý britský makléř na dovolené, je ohromen jejich situací, především možným osudem dětí, jejichž životy jsou ohroženy. Nemůže prostě odejít. Hovoří s mnoha rodiči, kteří mají odvahu rozloučit se se svými dětmi. Jeho úsilí vrcholí tím, že z Prahy odjede osm vlaků odvážejících 669 hlavně židovských dětí do bezpečí Velké Británie. Je to jen několik dní před tím, než se uzavřou hranice.

Memoirs of a Jewish woman, born ca. 1928, who grew up in the Czech town of Čelákovice and was sent by her parents, along with her sister, to England in 1939 under the sponsorship of the British Refugee Committee, due to the rescue activities of Nicholas Winton. Relates her wartime experiences in Wales and her return to Czechoslovakia in 1945. Both her parents were deported and died in concentration camps. Describes antisemitism expressed by some Czechs after the war and resentment shown toward Jews who returned to reclaim their property. Gissing returned to live in England in 1949.
