    Robert Carlyle Byrd è stato un Senatore degli Stati Uniti della Virginia Occidentale, membro ed ex leader del Partito Democratico al Senato. Byrd è stato senatore dal 3 gennaio 1959 fino alla sua morte, ed è stato il senatore in carica più a lungo, nonché il membro in carica più a lungo nella storia del Congresso. È stato Decano del Senato dal 2003 al 2010. Era anche il membro più anziano del Congresso all'epoca della sua morte (Strom Thurmond è stato il più anziano a servire nella storia del Congresso), ed è stata la prima persona a servire ininterrottamente per mezzo secolo come senatore.
