Eddie Anderson has achieved everything he dreamed of as the son of poor Greek immigrants. He is a wealthy man in a secure position, owning a beautiful house with a swimming pool in L.A., while his wife and daughter drive their own cars. He could be proud and happy. However, he bitterly realizes that money and professional success cannot fill the inner void of a life constrained by conventions. In this crisis, he becomes infatuated with the attractive and uninhibited Gwendolyn Hunt. Faced with the choice of giving up the comforts of his current life or sacrificing the girl, he attempts to rearrange his priorities. He separates from Gwendolyn, but after months of desperate efforts, he must acknowledge that he has become too entangled in the web of unrestrained passion.
Master Sergeant Cesario Flores is a troubled man. A career non-com, he feels safe in his well-ordered life. So when his precious daughter Juana joins the tuned-in, dropped-out generation, Flores breaks into little pieces...with murder the result. THE ASSASSINS is set in the United States during the '70s, a violent time at home and abroad. It's about two specific murders, but more than that it focused on a murderous way of life.

Román zachytáva charakter národa poznačeného päťstoročnou tureckou porobou, no zároveň si uvedomuje svoju kultúrnu tradíciu. Kazanov román nás strhne svojou dramatickosťou a vášnivosťou.
Kazan on Directing

Elia Kazan was the twentieth century’s most celebrated director of both stage and screen, and this monumental, revelatory book shows us the master at work. Kazan’s list of Broadway and Hollywood successes—A Streetcar Named Desire, Death of a Salesman, On the Waterfront, to name a few—is a testament to his profound impact on the art of directing. This remarkable book, drawn from his notebooks, letters, interviews, and autobiography, reveals Kazan’s method: how he uncovered the “spine,” or core, of each script; how he analyzed each piece in terms of his own experience; and how he determined the specifics of his production. And in the final section, “The Pleasures of Directing”—written during Kazan’s final years—he becomes a wise old pro offering advice and insight for budding artists, writers, actors, and directors.
Stage director of "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "On The Waterfront" among others, tells of his background from a Greek immigrant family in New York to the heights of success and his controversial relationships with legendary figures like Marlon Brando, Tennessee Williams and James Dean.
Ethel is a woman hungry for a strong man's love. She indulges her appetites early, dipping into lives and beds and breaking off--unsatisfied, unfulfilled, ravenous still. She goes from man to man without guilt. Until, finally, someone has to stop her.

Elia Kazan was over 50 years old when his first book was published in 1962, but he was certainly not an unknown debut novelist. Kazan, the theater and film director, was a world-renowned figure with productions of works by Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams, as well as films such as "On the Waterfront" and "East of Eden." Elia Kazan was born in 1909 in Istanbul to Greek-Armenian parents. His family emigrated to America when he was four years old, and memories from this cultural shift became the theme for his first novel "America – America," about a Greek boy whose only thought is to get to the USA. Kazan continued his writing alongside his theater and film work. In 1967, "The Arrangement" was published, followed by "The Assassins" in 1972. Both novels caused a tremendous stir and were among the bestsellers of the year. In "The Understudy," published in the spring of 1975, Kazan has for the first time used the environment he knows from the inside as the setting for the story. Once again, Kazan has written a large, broad, entertaining narrative.
