Nel 1956 il ventitreenne Colin Clark, fresco di laurea oxfordiana, accettò di buon grado l'incarico di "trovarobe" sul set di Il principe e la ballerina , con Laurence Olivier e Marilyn Monroe. Si trovò così a essere testimone della confusione della bellissima diva, fresca di nozze con Arthur Miller, spesso sotto effetto di psicofarmaci, perennemente in ritardo, di contro all'ossessiva puntualità dell'iperprofessionale e molto britannico Olivier.
