Una macchina narrativa sapientissima consente a Leroux di tenere in perfetto equilibrio commedia, avventura, poliziesco e grandguignol; così che alla fine della lettura ci accorgiamo di essere stati catturati da una storia tanto carica di suggestioni quanto lineare ed emblematica.
