      Erinnerungen aus meinem Leben
    • This work explores the history of the Mongols in Persia, serving as a counterpart to the previously published account of the Mongolian Empire in Kiptschak. The latter was prompted by a prize question from the Petersburg Academy, while this narrative emerged from independent initiative. During the initial review of the vast historical materials, it became evident that there are significantly more valuable sources available for the Mongolian history in Persia, which were not fully utilized in previous accounts, including those by Mr. von d'Ohsson. While the history of the Mongols in Kiptschak is closer to Europe due to their devastating raids through Poland and Hungary into Germany and the Tatar rule in Russia, the Persian narrative holds greater interest due to its connection to crucial Asian events. These include the ruin of the Assassins and the Caliphate, the downfall of ancient dynasties, the establishment of new ones, campaigns against Egypt, and diplomatic relations between the Crusaders and the Pope. The Ulus of Jüchi dominated both European and Asian Russia, which historically was seen as a land of darkness and barbarism, while Persia has been recognized since ancient times.
