„Můj deník je částí mého já, která by jinak přetekla přes okraj a přišla nazmar,“ poznamenal si roku 1841 americký spisovatel a přírodovědec Henry David Thoreau do deníku, který si vedl čtyřiadvacet let. První český výbor z rozsáhlého díla ukazuje celou šíři autorovy osobnosti.
