Kniha přináší český překlad tří raných programových textů francouzského „novosokratika“ a „filosofa dialogu“ Gabriela Marcela (1889–1937), který pořídila Peluška Bendlová. Jsou to jednak eseje Existence a objektivita (1925) a Postavení ontologického tajemství a jeho konkrétní přiblížení (1933), jež se upínají k Marcelovu Metafyzickému deníku z let 1914–1923, jednak přednáška Můj základní záměr, kterou Marcel proslovil na univerzitě v Gentu v roce 1937. Peluška Bendlová napsala též důkladnou úvodní studii Mezi reflexí a vírou, v níž uvedené tři texty analyzovala v kontextu celého Marcelova filosofického díla. Kromě toho přeložené texty opatřila poměrně rozsáhlými poznámkami pod čarou, které obsahují její komentáře doplněné o český překlad tematicky relevantních výňatků z Marcelových stěžejních děl z let 1951–1973, v nichž francouzský myslitel své někdejší filosofické úvahy revidoval, pozměnil či dále rozvedl. Kniha je posledním plodem více než dvě desítky let trvajícího marcelovského studia Pelušky Bendlové (1931–2019). Je vydána z její literární pozůstalosti.

Kniha přináší dvě závěrečné kapitoly díla Homo viator, v nichž Marcel uvádí Rilkeho poezii do kontextu se svou filosofií poutnictví, kterou pojímá jako směřování z viditelného do neviditelného. Duše se takovýmto „přesídlením“ vrací z „exilu“ do „vlasti“. Pod vlivem „vysušující techniky“ se však smrt stává „brutálním faktem připomínajícím rozpad nějakého zařízení“. Neosókratik Marcel nás vyzývá, abychom znovu vstoupili na nekonečnou cestu k tajemství bytí i smrti.
