Z předmluvy autorky: Tak jako tomu bylo v případě mé první knihy, ani zde nebylo mým úmyslem psát historii genocidy v Rwandě. Detailní reportáž a politickou analýzu těch 100 dní zabíjení ponechávám historikům, žurnalistům, profesorům a politikům. Mým příspěvkem je pouze můj vlastní příběh – ano, příběh o přežití genocidy, ale také svědectví o tom, jak jsem díky víře a uzdravující síle odpuštění znovu objevila chuť žít, smysl života. Jde o pravdivý příběh: všechny události se skutečně staly, používám své vlastní jméno i skutečná jména mých rodinných příslušníků. Změnila jsem pouze jména některých dalších osob v mém vyprávění, pokud si to žádala ochrana jejich soukromí a bezpečnost těch, kteří přežili. Tato publikace vyšla navazuje na knihu Left to Tell, která se v USA stala bestsellerem a vyšla v češtině pod názvem Přežila jsem (Ikar - Euromedia Group, 2007). Autobiografie Přežila jsem je strhujícím příběhem. Autorka - Immaculée Ilibagiza - díky víře v Boha přežila masakr asi 1 mil. Tutsiů, který se odehrál ve Rwandě r. 1994. Je katolického vyznání a pochází ze Rwandy. Od r. 1998 žije v USA (je držitelkou mezinárodní ceny Mahátma Gandhího za r. 2007).

Autorka knih Přežila jsem, Odpustila jsem, Panna Maria kibežská a Chlapec, který se setkal s Ježíšem (spolu se Stevem Erwinem), se narodila ve Rwandě a studovala na Rwandské národní univerzitě. Genocida v roce 1994 ji připravila o většinu rodiny. V této knize se s námi svěžím, prostým i vtipným způsobem dělí o své osobní zkušenosti s celoživotním objevováním moci a krásy růžence: své seznamování s ním ve vlastní rodině, která se růženec pravidelně společně modlila, studium růžence při přípravě na biřmování, jeho každodenní modlitbu během tří měsíců skrývání před zabijáky. Věří, že tato prastará modlitba ji v době, kdy bylo zavražděno přes milion nevinných lidí, zachránila před smrtí. I dnes, dvacet let po těchto událostech, se Immaculée modlí denně růženec, který ji bohatě odměňuje: posiluje její víru a naplňuje ji štěstím. Kniha vypráví fascinující příběh sedmi dívek a chlapce, jimž se v 80. letech v maličké rwandské vesnici Kibeho zjevovala Panna Maria. Objevení se Panny Marie v Kibeho patří k nejvýznamnějším mariánským zjevením v dějinách lidstva vůbec a spisovatelka Immaculée Ilibagiza zasvětila svůj život tomu, aby se svět o skupině mladých rwandských vizionářů, kteří byli dlouhá léta zevrubně zkoumáni vědci, psychiatry, lékaři a teology, dozvěděl více. Během zjevení docházelo i k celé řadě zázraků a vizionářky dokonce pod dohledem vyšetřovatelů podstoupily mystické pouti (jedna z dívek zemřela na Velký pátek a o Velikonoční neděli byla vzkříšena). Vatikán zatím (v listopadu 2001) uznal pravost tří svědectví, rozhodl, že je nelze vysvětlit jinak než zázrakem a podpořil zřízení Svatyně Naší Paní Sedmibolestné přímo v Kibeho.
