Set in the summer of 1989, on the brink of his exams Luca Molinari, a graduating student, insults his literature teacher, Antonio Martinelli, in a final act of rebellion. This act backfires when Martinelli states that he will be part of the judging panel in their gruelling oral exam. At a party the same evening, Luca falls in love with Martinelli's daughter Claudia.
