De Deense brigadier Mork, hoofd van de afdeling onopgeloste moordzaken, vindt op een dag het dossier op zijn bureau over een moord op een broer en zus uit 1987. Als na enige tijd een van de verdachten zich aangeeft, lijkt de zaak opgelost maar er lopen nog steeds verschillende gefrustreerde mensen rond waaronder de man die het dossier onder Morks aandacht wil brengen. Het wordt brigadier Mork en zijn assistent Assad al gauw duidelijk dat er grove fouten zijn gemaakt waarbij rijke, invloedrijke personen een rol spelen, allen afkomstig van dezelfde kostschool. Net als Mork een spoor te pakken heeft, wordt het hem onmogelijk gemaakt zijn onderzoek voort te zetten; van hogerhand moet hij de zaak laten rusten. Het verhaal ontvouwt zich door de verschillende hoofdpersonen te volgen.
