Just after the Stuart uprising in 1745, with feelings at fever pitch between the Scots and the English, Anstey Frazer is taken prisoner by a troop of Redcoats. Accused of murdering one of their colleagues, she faces a journey fraught with danger from her beloved Highlands to London. Her captor, the arrogant Captain James Ward, appears to hate her far more than a Redcoat should hate a Jacobite lass. And can fate really be so cruel as to make the loathsome Captain attractive to Anstey, when she is totally at his mercy? Tension between captor and prisoner grows as the journey continues south — to the sombre Tower of London.
