Niniejsza dwutomowa edycja opiera się na kanonicznym zbiorze z 1857 roku, a jej tłumaczeniem oraz posłowiem zajęła się Eliza Pieciul-Karmińska. Dzięki jej pracy, baśnie te zostały uwolnione od dydaktyzmu i patyny czasu, oferując nową jakość. Ilustracje do zbioru stworzył Otto Ubbelohde, niemiecki artysta związany z secesją, znany z pejzaży i martwych natur. Jego prace przyczyniły się do wzrostu popularności baśni braci Grimm, które inspirowały pisarzy, kompozytorów oraz twórców filmowych. Baśnie te są obecne w ludowej mądrości, ukazując cnoty wierności, empatii i odwagi, w opozycji do pychy, egoizmu i zawiści.
