Utah Art, Utah Artists surveys 150 years of remarkable talent and achievements of Utah artists, showcasing a diverse range from a resourceful ranching woman’s sublime paintings to polished works by artists trained in major cities like Paris and New York. This comprehensive exhibition features 300 artworks by 220 artists, carefully selected from a pool of 10,000 Utah artists based on five criteria: quality of work, critical acclaim, overdue recognition, emerging talent, and representation across various periods, styles, mediums, and regions. One hundred twenty artworks are reproduced in rich color, many illustrated for the first time. The selected works and biographical information are presented chronologically, offering a valuable perspective on Utah art that serves as an essential reference for collectors, scholars, and enthusiasts. The contributors include Vern G. Swanson, Ph.D., director of the Springville Museum of Art since 1980, and coauthor of several significant works; Robert S. Olpin, Ph.D., a University of Utah professor and television course presenter; Donna L. Poulton, Ph.D., Assistant Curator of Exhibitions at the Springville Museum, who has documented the lives of Utah artists; and Janie L. Rogers, M.A., a founding member of the Associated Art Historians, Inc., who focused her thesis on Utah architecture.
