      Orosius († kolem roku 420) byl pozdně antický spisovatel a historik, původem z Bracary v Lusitanii (dn. Braga v Portugalsku). Roku 414 přišel na útěku před Vandaly do afrického město Hippo Regia, v době svého pobytu u Jeronýma v Palestině se zapojil i do teologického sporu o učení pelagiánů. Dějiny proti pohanům v sedmi knihách (Historiae adversus paganos VII) jsou Orosiovým hlavním a nejdůležitějším dílem. Napsal je z podnětu církevního Otce Aurelia Augustina na podporu jeho historicko-eschatologické teze o vítězství Boží obce (civitas Dei) nad obcí pozemskou (civitas terrena). V dějinách, jež časově zabírají dobu od stvoření Adama až do roku 417, se Orosius snaží dokázat, že od příchodu Kristova na zem se situace lidstva zlepšila. Čerpal z Písma, Eusebiovy kroniky, Livia, Justina či Eutropia. V popisu událostí posledních desetiletí však již postupuje samostatně a tyto pasáže jsou z historického hlediska nejcennější. Orosiova kronika je sice napsána zaujatě a povrchně s rétoricky nadnesenou dikcí, představuje nicméně významný doklad ve vývoji křesťanské univerzalistické historiografie. V pozdější době z ní čerpal např. proslulý polyhistor Isidor ze Sevilly a těšila se velké čtenářskému ohlasu po celý středověk. První český překlad a edici Orosiova díla připravuje Bohumila Mouchová, která se pozdně antickou historiografií dlouhodobě zabývá, spolu s Bořivojem Markem.
