Antoni Tàpies is one of the most significant living artists in Spain. This catalog presents a representative selection of around ninety works spanning seven decades, celebrating his artistic journey. Tàpies has liberated the genre of paper works from formal and material constraints like few others. More than his oil paintings, these works are characterized by spontaneity and expressiveness in the realization of artistic ideas. His quest for truth and engagement with the elemental aspects of life is palpable in the radical simplicity and thorough exploration of the medium of paper. This extensive body of work showcases all forms of his paper creations, from small pencil drawings to large-format paintings on cardboard and object-like collages. Accompanied by texts from various authors, this volume offers new perspectives on Tàpies' oeuvre, reflecting his unique artistic vision and the profound connection he establishes with his materials.
