Jerzy „Szajbus” jest z zawodu grafikiem. Opublikował około sześćdziesięciu bogato ilustrowanych opowiadań dla dzieci w wieku 10–14 lat. Laureat kilku konkursów literackich. Mąż i ojciec rodziny Szajbus, jego dziewięćdziesięcioletnia mama Księżniczka ze stawem barkowym w gipsie, chora na serce żona Pani Dobrze i pies wyruszają na upragnione wakacje do Krainy Wielkich Jezior. Kemping, na którym – chcąc nie chcąc – się znajdują, to „świetne” miejsce dla całej czwórki. W trabancie psuje się przegub, a jego naprawa – w czasach, kiedy niczego nie można było załatwić od ręki – powoduje lawinę niezwykłych sytuacji... Szalenie zabawna, ale też poruszająca historia, którą czyta się jednym tchem. Dodałem gazu… Świadomość, że już przebyłem połowę drogi, przyprawiała mi skrzydła. Właśnie zamierzałem zanucić modną wówczas piosenkę „Lato, lato, lato czeka”, gdy usłyszałem złowrogi, stłumiony szczęk. Wyhamowałem i zjechałem na pobocze. – Co się stało? – zapytały panie chórem. – Przegub – odpowiedziałem zduszonym od trwogi głosem. – Ale ty masz… Na pewno masz przegub?!
