Моя задача — сохранить при составлении сборника всю свежесть и непосредственность народного рассказа. Для этого я поступаю так: из многочисленных вариантов народной сказки выбираю наиболее интересный, коренной, и обогащаю его из других вариантов яркими языковыми оборотами и сюжетными подробностями. Разумеется, мне приходится при таком сборе сказки из отдельных частей, или "реставрации" её, дописывать кое-что самому, кое-что видоизменять, дополнять недостающее, но делаю я это в том же стиле — и с полной уверенностью предлагаю читателю подлинную народную сказку, народное творчество со всем богатством языка и особенностями рассказа...
