És a dir, s'ho pensaven, ja que al capdavall el criminal el tenien a l'abast de la mà i, si se'ls hagués acudit de sospitar-ho, de feina no els n'hauria donat cap. Ben cert que aleshores ens hauríem quedat sense aquesta novel·la, i hauria estat una llàstima, perquè és bona de veritat.
