Since making his debut for Southern United in 1979 Garry Nelson has made nearly 600 league appearances, scoring over 100 goals. In 1994-95 he reached his 34th birthday and kept a diary of what he expected might be his last season in the comparative high life of division one at Charlton Athletic.
