Pyotr Tchaikovsky is one of the Romantic period's greatest composers and the first Russian composer to achieve international fame and admiration. E. T. A. Hoffmann, geboren 1776 in Königsberg, studierte Jura und wurde Referendar am Berliner Kammergericht. Wegen seiner Karikaturen auf preußische Offiziere wurde er nach Polen strafversetzt und schließlich Kapellmeister in Bamberg. Bis zu seiner Rückkehr nach Berlin 1814 widmete er sich vor allem der Musik. In Berlin wurde er Kammergerichtsrat, gründete den Serapinenorden und verfasste bedeutende Romane wie "Die Elixiere des Teufels" und "Die Lebensansichten des Katers Murr". Seine Erzählungen, darunter die vorletzte "Der Meister Floh", wurden teilweise zensiert, da die Figuren als Satire auf reale Personen wahrgenommen wurden. 1822 erkrankte Hoffmann schwer und diktierte vom Sterbebett aus die Erzählung "Des Vetters Eckfenster", in der er sich dem kritischen Realismus näherte. Er starb am 25. Juni 1822 in Berlin. Die vorliegende Neuausgabe enthält eine Biographie des Autors und basiert auf den poetischen Werken von E.T.A. Hoffmann. Die Paginierung der ursprünglichen Ausgabe wird zeilengenau mitgeführt. Die Umschlaggestaltung verwendet ein Werk von Camille Corot.
