John Lleighton

    John Leighton fu un artista inglese celebrato per le sue illustrazioni e i suoi design di copertine di libri. Il suo talento per il design trovò espressione precoce in "Suggestions in Design..." (1852), un'opera che esponeva le sue convinzioni riguardo alla storia del design. Leighton fu anche tra i primi a studiare i bolli dei libri e a incoraggiarne la raccolta, contribuendo alla fondazione di una Società Ex Libris di cui fu Vicepresidente. La sua produzione artistica si basò fortemente su motivi decorativi storici, applicati ripetutamente in illustrazioni di libri e centinaia di design di copertine.
