Jules Laforgue

    Jules Laforgue fu un poeta francese innovatore, la cui opera è spesso descritta come in parte simbolista e in parte impressionista. Fu tra i primi poeti francesi ad abbracciare il verso libero, fortemente influenzato da Walt Whitman. Filosoficamente, il suo pensiero fu profondamente plasmato da Schopenhauer e Von Hartmann. La poesia di Laforgue si rivelò un'influenza importante sui giovani T. S. Eliot e Ezra Pound, con il suo stile salutato come una nuova maniera nella letteratura inglese.

    • Patricia Terry was Professor of French Literature at Barnard College and the University of California San Diego. Her recent titles include Capital of Pain by Paul +luard (with Mary Ann Caws and Nancy Kline), Lancelot and the Lord of the Distant Isles: or, The Book of Galehaut Retold (with Samuel N. Rosenberg), The Sea and Other Poems by Guillevic, and a book of her own poems, Words of Silence. At present, in collaboration with Nancy Kline, she is working on an anthology of the poems and prose of Jules Supervielle (Black Widow Press 2011).     • Jules Laforgue, né à Montevideo, s'installe en France à six ans. À 21 ans, il devient lecteur de français à Berlin, où il se marie. Sa révolution esthétique commence avec "Imitation de Notre Dame la Lune" et se termine avec "Derniers poèmes". Il est une figure clé de la poésie française du XIXe siècle, aux côtés de Rimbaud et Verlaine.
