Maggiori informazioni sul libro

Swiss artist H. R. Giger (1940–2014) gained fame for designing the alien creature in Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror film Alien (1979), for which he won an Oscar. The Alien is undoubtedly the star of Giger's extensive arsenal of biomechanical beings, yet it is just one of many hybrids of human and machine that populate his nightmarish visions. These creatures possess an intense power, terrifying beauty, morbid eroticism, and surreal fantasy. Giger created a wholly unique visual world, expressing the collective fears of his time: anxiety about nuclear war, overpopulation, dwindling resources, and a future where the survival of our bodies may depend on machines. This volume narrates Giger's life story through autobiographical texts and a wealth of hauntingly exquisite illustrations. It showcases Giger's sculptures, interiors, drawings, paintings, and album covers, along with his intricate set designs for films like Species, Alien, and Dune, the unique Giger Museum, and the fantastical bar he designed in Gruyères, Switzerland.
