Maggiori informazioni sul libro

The better and more effective treatment of wounds and healing disorders are amongst the advances in surgery in recent years. Problems of wound healing and surgical site infection are no longer marginal concerns, instead they have become an important element of modern, comprehensive perioperative care. Now our goal is not simply to cure the patient, but to actively prevent the development of infection and the formation of a complicated wound. We intervene much earlier and more effectively and in for fast wound healing. We also try to ensure that the positive effects of healing translate into a high quality of life and the greatest possible functioning for the patient. One of the breakthrough tools that allows us to achieve these aims is negative pressure wound therapy. On the one hand, it is an extremely simple method, and on the other hand, it is nicely stable for continuous modifications, personalisation of treatment and further new applications. It uses single mechanisms for the stimulation of healing factors despite primary wound defects and allows effective prevention and treatment of wound infection. Above all, it provides almost unlimited options for clinical applications. Recent results have confirmed that NPT can be used in new indications, which is exemplified by the rapid development of endoscopic vacuum therapy. We can also modify indications and treatment regimens, and further innovative approaches can still be created. It is extremely important that we share this knowledge, including successes and effective new solutions, but also failures for others to avoid. In this form of treatment, where almost every single dressing is a kind of unique solution, the exchange of experience is an invaluable way to improve our knowledge and the effectiveness of treatment. We have dedicated our book to this idea. It was created by excellent professionals that are experts in their fields, and enables the practical use of the methods presented. Just as importantly, it outlines new directions for future development, wound healing, shared path, and successful.
