The unscrupulous female leader of the College Communist Party is found strangled in one of the rooms at Mudge Hall, a singularly hideous hostel for male students in Hampstead. The room belonged to one of Adam Ludlow's most promising final-year English students and to clear the young man's name the ever-witty Ludlow joins forces with Inspector Montero in a rough and tumble chase around London for the real murderer.
