Il décrit la relation adultère entre Lancelot et Guenièvre, l'épouse du roi Arthur - et la volonté de Lancelot de se soumettre à l'humiliation d'être transporté dans la charrette, le véhicule honteux utilisé a transporter des hommes condamnés à la mort sur l'échafaud, afin de découvrir des nouvelles de la reine Guenièvre enlevée.
