Maggiori informazioni sul libro

In "The Visit," a tragicomedy written in 1955, Swiss playwright Friedrich Dürrenmatt introduces one of his most singular female characters, Claire Zachanassian, a woman of perverse and malevolent charm. She embodies neither justice nor redemption; rather, she is the richest woman in the world who, through her wealth, acts as an absolute and cruel heroine reminiscent of Greek tragedy. Once a poor girl named Klari Wascher, she returns to her hometown of Gullen, a Swiss community rife with mediocrity and frustration, accompanied by her seventh husband, two eunuchs, and a formidable panther. Claire is consumed by a singular desire for revenge against Alfred Ill, the man who seduced and abandoned her. She offers her fellow townspeople a fabulous reward for their complicity in her vengeance. This grotesque tale explores the corruptibility of humanity, the manipulation of consent, and the relationship between morality and violence, revealing how even the most honest individuals can succumb to greed and selfishness.
