Charlie worked at a temp agency where she was assigned to people who needed a secretary for however long. Her current job was with a famous psychologist/author who's book was all about the idea that love isn't a necessity for a happy marriage. Instead two people have to go into it knowing full well what they're getting into and work together to make it successful.
