Havran je klasická narativní báseň amerického spisovatele Edgara Allana Poea. Báseň, publikovaná v lednu 1845, je známá svou muzikálností, stylizovaným jazykem a nadpřirozenou atmosférou. Vypráví o tajemné návštěvě mluvícího havrana u zarmouceného milence, sledujícího jeho pomalý pád do šílenství. Milenec, často identifikovaný jako student, truchlí nad ztrátou své lásky, Lenore. Sedící na bustě Pallas, havran zdá se, že dále podněcuje jeho úzkost neustálým opakováním slova "nikdy více". Báseň využívá řady lidových, mytologických, náboženských a klasických odkazů. Poe tvrdil, že báseň napsal velmi logicky a metodicky, s cílem vytvořit dílo, které by oslovilo jak kritiky, tak širokou veřejnost, jak vysvětlil ve svém následném eseji "Filozofie kompozice". Báseň byla částečně inspirována mluvícím havranem v románu Barnaby Rudge: Příběh nepokojů osmdesátých let od Dickense.

Taubes za života vydal — podává historickou syntézu západního duchovního odkazu z hlediska náboženské apokalyptiky, jejíž počátky odhaluje od hebrejských proroctví přes antiku a rané křesťanství, sleduje její středověké oživení u Jáchyma z Fiore a odkrývá její pozdní sekularizované formy u Kanta, Hegela, Marxe a Kierkegaarda. Taubes obsahově navazuje především na Jonasovy a Löwithovy rozbory, svou úvahu však předkládá ve formě apelativního eseje, který v našem prostředí vyzývá ke konfrontaci s Kacířskými eseji Jana Patočky. Přijetí myšlenky, že čas jednoho dne skončí, má podle Taubese zásadní důsledky pro politické myšlení. Jestliže je přirozený čas zakoušen jakožto věčný cyklus událostí, pak jsou „dějiny“ časovou oblastí, v níž mohou lidé díky aktivním rozhodnutím měnit vývoj událostí.
