"Intersex individuals are people who cannot be classified according to the medical norms of so-called male and female bodies. Inter* individuals are still pathologised and classified as 'sick' or 'abnormal', they also experience physical violence and life-threatening situations. This study by Dan Christian Ghattas names the largely invisible discrimination against these individuals and offers a first overview their life situations from 12 selected countries in various regions of the world. The study provides points of departure for strategies to improve the human rights situation of intersex individuals and recommends to actors how to develop measures in this area in order to render visible gender diversity as a means of enhancing human rights protection"--Page 4 of cover
