Die historische Entwicklung in der zahnmedizinischen Versorgung unter dem Einfluss der Sozialpolitik
    • Dentistry has a rich and varied history, evolving significantly until the 20th century when it began to be recognized as a distinct profession. In the German-speaking regions, dentists and doctors practiced together until the latter half of the century, with the profession previously being less defined. Barber-surgeons, or “Bader,” performed dental work without formal education, alongside their hair-cutting duties. Numerous innovations have shaped the field, from foot-powered drills to advanced micro-motorized equipment. The development of the common health insurance system and the self-administration of the dental profession has progressed since the late 19th century. The interplay of health and social policy, along with legal frameworks, remains complex and often contentious. This doctoral thesis examines the historical evolution of dental care in the Federal Republic of Germany, highlighting a transformative era. Key developments include the 1965 fee schedule for dental treatments, the 1974 rehabilitation law, and the 1977 fee regulations, all of which have had a lasting impact on dental care. Additionally, this period saw significant changes in orthodontics, which became integrated into the social insurance system.
