For some time, medicine has been an important driver for the development of data processing and visualization techniques. Improved technology offers the capacity to generate larger and more complex data sets related to imaging and simulation. This, in turn, creates the need for more effective visualization tools for medical practitioners to interpret and utilize data in meaningful ways. The first edition of Visualization in Medicine and Life Sciences (VMLS) emerged from a workshop convened to explore the significant data visualization challenges created by emerging technologies in the life sciences. The workshop and the book addressed questions of whether medical data visualization approaches can be devised or improved to meet these challenges, with the promise of ultimately being adopted by medical experts. Visualization in Medicine and Life Sciences II follows the second international VMLS workshop, held in Bremerhaven, Germany, in July 2009. Internationally renowned experts from the visualization and driving application areas came together for this second workshop. The book presents peer-reviewed research and survey papers which document and discuss the progress made, explore new approaches to data visualization, and assess new challenges and research directions.

One of the important issues of Scientific Visualization is the utilization of the broad bandwidth of the human sensory system in steering and interpreting complex processes and simulations involving voluminous data sets across diverse scientific disciplines. This book presents the state-of-the-art in visualization techniques both as an overview for the inquiring scientist, and as a solid platform from which developers may extend existing techniques or devise new ones to meet the specific needs of their problems. A secondary goal in crafting this volume has been to provide a vehicle for teaching of state-of-the-art techniques in scientific visualization. The first part of the book covers the application areas fluid flow visualization in medicine, and environmental protection. The second set of chapters explain fundamentals of scientific visualization. It comprises contributions on data structuring and data administration, data modeling, and rendering. A final section is devoted to auditory representation of scientific data.

Hans Nolte (1857-1916) brachte den Fußball nach Papenburg und gründete die Traditionsvereine FC Germania 08 und SV Amisia 09. Diese fusionierten 1994 im SC Blau-Weiß 94. Nolte spielte auch eine Schlüsselrolle beim Ausbau des Realprogymnasiums zum vollwertigen Gymnasium. Seine Personalakte offenbart einen Konflikt mit dem Bürgermeister, der an den Kulturkampf erinnert.

Das Buch »Juda. Gesänge« ist eine Balladensammlung über Figuren des Alten Testaments, entstanden aus der Zusammenarbeit von Börries von Münchhausen, Ephraim Moses Lilien und Friedrich Adolf Lattmann. Trotz ihrer antisemitischen Ansichten sorgte das Werk 1900 für Aufsehen. Es beleuchtet die Biografien der Protagonisten und die Entwicklung von Antisemitismus bis hin zum Holocaust, mit Parallelen zu heutigen Entwicklungen.

Das Leben von Johannes Hagen, mehr bekannt unter dem Namen Hans Hagen, ist von seiner Jugend an bis heute, von besonderen Erfahrungen und Erlebnissen der Führung und Bewahrung durch Gott geprägt. Besonders erlebte er das in den dreieinhalb Jahren als Soldat in Russland während des letzten Weltkrieges, dann bei seinem ungewöhnlichen Weg in den Missionsdienst nach Äthiopien und auch in den 45 Jahren seines Einsatzes in der Mission. Von Beruf Elektroingenieur und Diplom-Gewerbelehrer erhielt er, als Leiter der größten Technischen Betriebsschule in Ostberlin, auf einer Jugendfreizeit, die er leitete, einen klaren Ruf in den Missionsdienst nach Äthiopien, dem er 1959 mit seiner Frau und drei Buben im Alter von 4 bis 8 Jahren folgte. Sein letzter Einsatz in Äthiopien erfolgte 2005 in seinem 84. Lebensjahr.
